Planning

Your birth preferences

Create a flexible birth plan that reflects your wishes while staying open to the unexpected. Use it as a guide for conversations with your midwife and healthcare team.

Important note

A birth plan reflects our preferences, but flexibility is important because every birth experience is unique. We trust our healthcare team to make decisions based on the safety of mother and baby.

Birth plan tips

  • Discuss your birth plan with your midwife or doctor around 32–36 weeks
  • Bring multiple copies to the hospital or birth centre
  • Share it with your birth team and support person
  • Keep it simple and focused on what matters most to you
  • Remember that the goal is a healthy mum and baby, not a perfect birth
  • Stay flexible — birth plans are guides, not rigid requirements
